Shini's wonderful fucking day of win. (Another wonderful tl;dr rant.) [19 Aug 2008|02:39pm]

You know, you think by now I'd figure out that anything having to do with the school district that I graduated from and that my siblings are currently under would be a giant clusterfuck, and obviously not worth the time and effort it takes fucking put up with any of it.

Okay, so I take them up to the school to go get their schedules for class. You think this would be a simple deal right? Wrong.

First off, due to the fact that they are NOT FINISHED WITH THE ACTUAL FUCKING CONSTRUCTION OF THE SCHOOL, there are no good parking lots. In fact, while we were up there, some of the areas WERE JUST GETTING PAVED. There were no signs on where we COULD park, and at one point I actually had workers telling me to turn around for some goddamn reason. (Which makes no damn sense because they weren't even WORKING on that parking lot).

So after 15 minutes of trying to find out where the fuck I'm supposed to park. We get there and see about a million tables set up in no particular order, with groups of parents and children at each one. We keep trying to ask where the hell we're supposed to go, and SURPRISE, SURPRISE, no one fucking knows. Eventually we figure out which table is taking the paperwork, by some miracle of some sort.

At this point, I realize I had forgotten the check to give to our optometrist for my sisters' glasses, which we were planning on picking up after we were through with this organizational abortion. However I figure it can't be much longer, they'll turn in their paperwork and go get their schedules and we can leave, right? Wrong again. Turns out that not only do they need to turn in paperwork, but for some reason they need a school ID (Okay, fine.), and for some inexplicable reason, they need to stop at the food and transportation table as well.

There are several things wrong with this:

1.) My sisters do not qualify for any transportation. We live close enough to the school that the buses will not bother to come by our house. We're already well aware of this fact, and quite frankly, it's not that big of an issue. We've worked around this before.

2.) The only people who qualify for reduced/free lunch in our school system are people already on public assistance. We are not on public assistance, so we do not qualify. Once again, something we're already aware of.

My question is, if we already know we qualify for NEITHER OF THESE, WHY IN THE NINE HELLS SHOULD WE STAND OUTSIDE IN LINE, IN THE SUN, IN 88 DEGREE WEATHER HEAT (PROBABLY HIGHER WITH THE HUMIDITY) TO HAVE SOME FUCKSTICK TELL US SOMETHING WE ALREADY FUCKING KNOW?

Well, with this information in hand, I figured that it will be awhile, so I run home and grab the check and not to mention a couple of sodas for my sisters and I. Thankfully, by the time I return they're actually done with the entire process, and we can get to the optometrist without any problems.

All in all, about a hour and 30 minutes of my life was wasted because the fine people of SCS couldn't fucking organize a finding of their own ass with both hands tied behind their back.

The really frustrating part about this is that I should have come to expect this. It's not like this is the first time they've completely and utterly failed on all accounts to have an event that makes something resembling sense. I mean, what the hell I was I expecting, a well organized, neat, and easy process that moved everyone through and quickly as possible with little to no frustration?

Where the hell do I think I am?

Ugh.

Your Goddess and Mistress,

Shinimegami

Weekend Over! [17 Aug 2008|07:12pm]

[ music | // Armor For Sleep - "Being Your Walls" / ]

Well starting with Friday, I got a bunch of work done in the AM. I actually had a fair amount, more then I thought I would have. I did a lot of preparation for the server work we did this weekend. Obviously I didn't get everything covered because we did hit a few snags while upgrading the servers. So after I got my work done I got all my gear packed up and headed to where the servers are kept. I worked on more prep work while there and then [info]emilie came. She bought some stuff I forgot which was good.

Around 1pm the guy from GMA came out and checked over our lines and everything. We ended up splitting the voice and data wires and then we ran a cable directly from the data lines and pretty much right into the modem. Definitely noticed a BIG improvement and now I've noticed 0 disconnections since yesterday which is awesome. So now Scribbld should be up and running at 100%!

I don't think anything spectacular happened on Friday night. I attempted to get to bed early so that I could wake up early and start working at 8am like I mentioned.

.... interruption....

I just sent this photo to Keith, he should obviously get this instead of iPhone --

.... ok back to your regularly scheduled program ....

So I woke up a bit later then I had wanted to on Saturday, but by 8:20am we were working on the server. The first snag we hit was that one of the web servers wouldn't connect to the Internet. it's NIC module wasn't be loaded. Fortunately after some poking around and chatting on #Gentoo I got it working and made sure it loaded up on boot too.

The next snag we hit was the server to be Scribbld 1 ran some rather new hardware so it had trouble finding the hard drive. After bother #Debian I remembered the last time we installed Linux on it we had to use this special custom build which included drivers for all this new stuff. So after getting a bootable USB key we got the base system installed.

The last major snag we hit was we forgot to snag the Last.fm code from the development box so that feature was "disabled" until we could get to it today.

[info]morgan and I worked until 10pm or so last night. We pretty much finished up all the big things and had about 8-10 smaller things left to do today. We did 2-3 of them today, the rest we'll complete over the course of the next 2 weeks. I don't expect it to take that long though.

[info]emilie and I went to the barn this afternoon, played with the kitties, Bethany did really well in her A circuit show this past week. We almost brought another kitty home, we'll see. When I got home I added the Last.fm code and made sure it worked and it did. I'm just working on another Gentoo install for a private WoW server. I am hoping I can bring the databases over from the old percheron install, but you never know.

Alright, I think it's time to go relax and no more computer!

System Upgrade 98% Complete [17 Aug 2008|05:16pm]

system
Hey kids!

We've just completed most of the upgrade, I know I promised Last.fm integration, but unfortunately, I've left one line of code on our dev machine (which I don't currently have access to at the moment) that will make it work 100%. I know exactly where the line of code is so on Monday I will insert that one line of ode, restart the server and then the Last.fm functions should work and the server will be at 100%. At this time, pretty much everything on the site should work, please use the support queue to report any issues you may be having and we'll look into it.

I am hoping that all cluster 2 users are okay, I don't see why they wouldn't be, but you never know!

So yeah, enjoy and definitely let us know of issues!

Update: We're now at 100% - all clusters are updated, online and running, we've updated the last bit of code that allows Last.fm integration! Test it out, test it all out, let us know how it all works for you! Submit any issues you have to the support section of the website!

Thanks everyone!

Internetz Fixed? [15 Aug 2008|09:37pm]

jimmy
[ mood | working ]

First I must apologize for not leaving comments as of late. I've been really busy consulting, working my horse, working at the barn, getting paper work done for my new job at the University and in-between spending some time with [info]emilie. I've also been working hard at making sure we get a much more reliable connection between our ISP and our servers.

A guy from our ISP actually came out today and had a look at it all, I had him drill a direct line from our telephone box right into the server room. So now the modem has a direct connection to the phone box and it should be much better. Things seem to be fixed.

Tomorrow we'll be working on upgrading our entire systems setup. I've started a couple things right now, but the majority of it will get done tomorrow. We'll be starting at 8am and I hope to have everything back up and running by the late afternoon tomorrow if not sooner. It's definitely going to be pretty hectic but we'll get it all done.

I think I'll be getting to bed relatively early tonight, got to be up early tomorrow. I am hoping if it's nice in the evening, I'll be able to go out riding, but who knows. Have a nice weekend everyone, I'll attempt to get some commenting done!

Systems UPgrade Part I Complete! [15 Aug 2008|02:19pm]

system
Hey everyone,

Sorry for the unannounced outtage. We just had the techs from our ISP come and check out the disconnection issues between us and them. Everything looks to be running a lot smoother now.

Remember, tomorrow starting at 8AM EST Scribbld will be offline along with all of our services. We'll be upgrding our codebase and moving our main web server to the Quad-Core box.

We thank you for your patience and understanding!
